The Nursing Department at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Malaysia seeks to prepare nursing practitioners who are accountable, caring, and humane which will eventually contribute safely and effectively to contemporary health care. Students undertaking this course will have acquisition of knowledge, skills and attitudes from the Nursing and Behavioural Sciences. The Bachelor of Nursing programme encourages graduates to be critical thinkers, independent and self-directed through the courses being offered such as basic research skills, leadership and management and entrepreneurship. These will allow them to aquire an extensive knowledge base which will enhance their innovative skills in future carreer development.
The chronology of the Nursing Department begins under the administration of the Faculty of Applied Sciences. It was officially started its first intake in July 1996 with a total of 52 students in all the seven health sciences programs. Later, in December 2002 the Nursing Department was put under the administration of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. However, less than 2 years later, the faculty was separated and became two separate faculties which are Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Health Sciences. Finally in 15th March 2004, the Nursing Department settled down under Faculty of Health Sciences and keep on growing stronger ever since. The Program has moved from different places starting from the historical building of 1957 Rural Industrial Development Authority (RIDA) known as Dewan Latihan RIDA which is the first campus of UiTM at UiTM Jalan Othman (Petaling Jaya, Selangor) to UiTM Beringin Residential College (Old Klang Road, Kuala Lumpur) and finally to the unique and beautiful UiTM Puncak Alam Campus (Bandar Puncak Alam, Selangor).These several relocation is to accommodate to the needs of the expanding number of students enrolled in the Nursing Programme.
The present location of Faculty of Health Sciences is situated in UiTM Puncak Alam Campus which provides modern lecture halls, various skills laboratories with suitable equipment to suit with different levels of Nursing Programme and speciality areas, students’ residential college as well as room to conduct students' activities under Nursing Students Association (NUSA). This association seek to prepare future nurses and support them with additional skills which encompass leadership, entrepreneurship, problem-solving, creative, team work and most importantly good communication skills.
The Nursing Programme have been approved by the Malaysian Public Services Department (JPA) and accredited by Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA), Ministry of Education Malaysia. It is also recognised by the Malaysia Nursing Board since 13th November 1996. In 2007, the Nursing Program has offered Post Graduate Programmes in Masters of Nursing with specialization in Critical Care and Women’s Health
