The Department of Optometry was established in 2006 under the Faculty of Health Sciences at the UiTM Jalan Othman Campus in Petaling Jaya. With other disciplines in health sciences it officially moved to the Puncak Alam Campus in July 2009. In 2016 the department was upgraded as a Centre of Optometry Study. The vision and mission of the department is to produce well-rounded graduates, excellent in academia, co-curriculum and have the right ethics and attitude towards primary eye care, in this country and world-wide. Our JOM CHEK MATA program with the mobile clinic (bus) is done with student’s participation. There are many co-curricular activities held in and outside campus, prepared, planned, organized and carried out by our students body (OPTIMIST). It is hoped that these exposures will equip our students with the lifelong learning skills that are mandatory now days to survive in the borderless world. The recent introduction of integrated CGPA (iCGPA) in our faculty will further enhance our training and assessment of students in the affective domain, to complement the cognitive and psychomotor domains already present.
Our graduates can be employed in various optometry setting such as hospital, private practice, education, academia, public health and optical industries.
